SMU Software Delivery Methods

All OIT-managed computers should have the Ivanti inventory agent installed by default. This agent not only provides inventory tracking but also assists in software deployment.

Applications available for faculty and staff to install without any additional cost are published to the deployment portal whenever possible. This allows faculty and staff to install the software as needed and the best time for installation.

Accessing the Deployment Portal (Windows OS)

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Programs
  3. Locate the Ivanti Management program group
  4. Select Portal Manager
  5. Log in with your SMU ID and password, if prompted.
  6. The Software Catalog will display all available applications for your computer.
  7. Click the Install button under each application to launch the installation task. 
  8. Leave the Ivanti application open while the software installs for status updates on the installation task.
  9. Restart your computer after the installation is complete.

Accessing the Deployment Portal (Mac OS)

  1. Click the Ivanti icon in the upper right menu bar 
  2. Select Portal Manager
  3. Log in with your SMU email and password, if needed.
  4. The Portal Manager will display all available applications for your computer.
  5. Click the Install button under each application you wish to install to launch the installation task. 
  6. Leave the Ivanti application open while the software installs for status updates on the installation task.
  7. Restart your computer after the software has completed being installed.
