Account, access, and authority systems and services protect not only SMU’s information resources, but your personal information. Services in this category include SMU account information, my.SMU, Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and more.
The University provides faculty, staff, and students a variety of computing resources and online services. A SMU ID (an account name that identifies you as a member of the Southern Methodist University community) and password is required to access most of these services. Your account information including your password should never be shared with anyone!
my.SMU is a web based application offering a variety of features for Students, Faculty, Staff and SMU Affiliates. There are several different areas within my.SMU. However, access to each area is monitored and approved by various module leads. my.SMU is a critical application for the University offering vital functionality to students, faculty, staff, donors and affiliates.
Your SMU Password is set to automatically expire after 365 days. In most cases, you will receive several email notifications prior to the expiration. All passwords must meet certain requirements. Use the Password Reset Tool to change your current password, reset your current password, or unlock your account.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second layer of security to your online accounts. Verifying your identity using a second factor (like your phone or other mobile device) prevents anyone but you from logging in, even if they know your password. SMU's Two-factor authentication is provided by Duo Security.
