Student & Faculty Licensing
Please Note: For those needing a license for work not related to teaching or that falls outside of the limited research qualifications established by Tableau for Teaching, Tableau Server licenses are available to faculty, staff, or student workers through their sponsoring department. Please see Tableau Server Licenses for more information.
Tableau Desktop and Tableau Public
Anyone interested in learning about Tableau is eligible for a free license for Tableau Desktop via Tableau Public from the Tableau Public Product Download page.
If students want to learn Tableau Prep, they will need to enroll in an SMU course that teaches Tableau Prep.
Tableau for Teaching Program
Faculty, students, and researchers may be eligible for a free license for Tableau Desktop and Prep Builder. These free licenses are managed by active instructors teaching a course and are administered by Tableau. Please see the Tableau for Teaching site to learn more about this option.
