Connections to general use linux servers (genuse) are done using an SSH (secure shell) client. Files are transferred using an SCP (Secure Copy) client. MAC and Linux computers have ssh and scp built-in. Below are some tutorials to help getting started with genuse.

Please note: Windows clients putty(ssh) and WinSCP(scp) are illustrated for example, but most ssh/scp clients should work.
