Eleanor “Delaney” Smith

Ph.D. student, Chemistry

Delaney SmithResearch Interests:
Delaney explores how computational chemistry can illuminate protein behavior and its implications in health and disease. She plans to apply molecular‑dynamics simulations and machine‑learning tools to study protein structure and function with the long‑term goal of supporting advances in drug discovery and disease treatment.

Road to the Moody School:
Delaney earned a B.S. in biochemistry from Saint Edward’s University, conducting undergraduate research in inorganic chemistry and discovering her interest in computational chemistry. She later worked in industry on formulations research and development, applying chemistry to materials‑science projects in electronics manufacturing. She is now pursuing graduate studies at SMU to further her expertise in computational chemistry. Outside work and school, she enjoys spending time with her dogs, playing games, gardening and connecting with friends.
