Ph.D. candidate, Economics

Fangzhou Sha

Research Interests: Fangzhou’s research focuses on macroeconomics, with a particular emphasis on the interaction between fiscal and monetary policy. She studies how government policy decisions impact inflation and economic stability, as well as how differences in household wealth and portfolios shape who experiences these effects most. To address these questions, she utilizes a combination of quantitative macroeconomic modeling and empirical data analysis.

Road to the Moody School: Fangzhou earned her B.B.A. in Accounting from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics in 2019. Driven by a growing curiosity about broader economic dynamics, she went on to receive an M.S. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 2021, where she developed her passion for macroeconomics. She then joined SMU’s Economics Ph.D. program, where she continues to pursue her doctoral research on monetary and fiscal policy interactions.
