Accelerated Masters (4+1)

Select SMU undergraduate students have the opportunity to apply to the M.A. in Advertising while working on their undergraduate degrees. If accepted, this program will allow for a student to earn both a B.A. and M.A. Up to 9 credits of M.A. classes count toward both the undergraduate and graduate degrees. Students will be required to complete an additional 27 credits of graduate work to complete the Master’s degree.

Admission Requirements

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate program at SMU.
  • Enroll in graduate courses after 90 credit hours towards B.A. are complete.
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Have two letters of recommendation from faculty members at SMU.
  • Apply and be accepted to the M.A. program prior to the undergraduate senior year.

Master's Degree Requirements

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in the M.A. degree course work (including the graduate course work applied towards the undergraduate degree requirements).
  • Complete a minimum of 27 credit hours of graduate course work at SMU beyond the undergraduate residency requirement to satisfy the graduate residency requirement.
  • Have been awarded an undergraduate degree and fulfilled other requirements for M.A. degree.
