Jennifer Laffick

Ph.D., Art History

Jennifer is a PhD student in the Department of Art History and is focusing her research on representations of masculinity during the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly in French painting. This is a continuation of her research interests from her MA, completed in 2018 at the Courtauld Institute of Art, where she wrote her thesis on the oeuvre of the French painter, Jean Broc, in relation to his involvement with the Primitif (or Barbu) sect of artists. She graduated with honors in 2017 from the University of Central Florida with her BA, where she majored in Art History and minored in French Language and wrote her undergraduate thesis on depictions of the god Eros in post-Revolutionary France. Prior to coming to SMU, Jennifer worked as the Curatorial Assistant at the Norton Museum of Art. She has also held museum internships at the Wallace Collection and the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys cinema, exploring new restaurants, visiting museums, and traveling.
