Joshua Zentner-Barrett

Joshua Zentner-Barrett

Joshua Zentner-Barrett holds the Master of Sacred Music in organ performance, summa cum laude, from Southern Methodist University and the Honours Bachelor of Music in organ performance from Wilfrid Laurier University. His organ teachers have included Stefan Engels, Marlin Nagtegaal and Christopher Anderson. He has also studied harpsichord with James Richman, conducting with Pamela Elrod-Huffman and Jessica Kun, and improvisation with Glenn Buhr and Gerard Yun.

A dedicated church and community musician, Zentner-Barrett is deeply committed to global music that serves to bridge the gap between diverse experiences and expressions of faith. He currently serves as organist and music director at Kanata United Church in Ottawa, Ontario, where he oversees a vibrant choral and instrumental program. Additionally, he is accompanist for the Goulbourn Jubilee Singers family of choirs, and a Master of Theological Studies student at Saint Paul University.

Studies with Debbie Lou Ludolph and C. Michael Hawn have shaped his leadership approach, which fuses ancient and modern hymnody with innovative performance techniques. As a musical enlivener, Zentner-Barrett uses music to respond to the call to witness, engaging all people in a full engagement with song.
