Robin Plata has been committed to building relationships for over 15 years. A graduate of SMU’s M.A./MBA program (’10), she began her career in development at Watertower Theatre before spending 12 years in multiple development positions at Dallas Theater Center, taking on the role of Director of Development as the COVID-19 shutdown began. In 2022 Plata moved to AT&T Performing Arts Center as Director of Development and in January 2026, she returned to Dallas Theater Center as the Chief Relationship Officer.
Having grown up in a family of musicians, and formerly a pianist, actor, and dancer, Plata is driven by her belief that live performing arts experiences can connect, inspire and heal. In addition to teaching future arts fundraisers, Plata serves on SMU’s Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Advisory Board. She also regularly mentors SMU undergraduate and graduate students. Plata is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and a Certified Fund Raising Executive.
