Art History students at SMU have the extraordinary benefit of access to world-class museums and collections located in Dallas/Fort Worth, both as visitors and, for the most highly qualified, as interns.

Art History majors and minors have held internships at the Amon Carter Museum, Dallas Art Fair, Dallas Contemporary, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Kimbell Art Museum, the Modern Fort Worth, the Nasher Sculpture Center, and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. The Department of Art History and the Hegi Family Career Development Center are currently collaborating with the Dallas Museum of Art to offer annual summer internships for SMU students.

SMU Art History graduate students have held internships at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and The Warehouse, Dallas.

Internship opportunities on campus include SMU's own Meadows Museum, one of the finest and most comprehensive collections of Spanish art outside of Spain; the Custard Institute for Spanish Art and Culture (CISAC); THE Bridwell Library; the Jake and Nancy Hamon Library; the DeGolyer Library; and the Hawn Gallery, located in the Hamon Arts Library.
