Sophia Salinas

Sophia Salinas is an art history Ph.D. candidate in SMU’s RASC/a: Rhetorics of Art, Space and Culture program. An art history scholar of the global contemporary, her research focuses on feminist and queer art, digital and time-based media art, and transnational artists. Her dissertation, Female Extension: Cyberfeminist Art Collectives at the Origins of Online Activism, focuses on the art of international cyberfeminist collectives during the rise of Web 1.0 and features case studies concerning the work of VNS Matrix, the Old Boys Network and subROSA. The activity of these collectives is studied in relation to local histories of activism and early efforts to construct transnational digital communities. Salinas has extensive museum experience, having worked with the Meadows Museum, SMU Galleries, The Rachofsky House, the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and the McNay Art Museum.
