Jennifer Laffick

Jennifer Laffick is a Ph.D. candidate in art history at SMU. Laffick’s research focuses on the relationship between French art and empire in the 18th and 19th centuries. Her dissertation, Neoclassicism’s Atlantic Currents: French Painting and Power in the Early Nineteenth Century, examines the transatlantic nature and trans-imperial allure of French neoclassical painting from about 1790 to 1840. For this project, Laffick has received external support from the Fulbright U.S. Student Program (France), the Chateaubriand Fellowship Program and the John Carter Brown Library. She has presented research related to her dissertation in the U.S., France and Brazil. Laffick is also interested in curatorial work. She was a participant in the 2026 Center for Curatorial Leadership/Mellon Foundation Seminar in Curatorial Practice and has held positions at a range of museums, including the National Gallery of Art, the Norton Museum of Art and the Wallace Collection.
