Ana Girard

Ana Girard is an art historian and Ph.D. student at SMU, specializing in the visual and material culture of the early modern world. Her research focuses on the art of the Spanish Empire, Indigenous contributions to the global Renaissance and Baroque, and the history of science. She holds an M.A. in Art History from the University of Houston, as well as Magna Cum Laude bachelor’s degrees in art history and Spanish. Her interdisciplinary background also includes studies in music and vocal performance at the Universidad Autónoma de México. Her professional experience spans teaching, museum research, curatorial work, and digital interpretation. She has held fellowships and research positions at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, The Menil Collection, and SMU, contributing to exhibitions, collections research, publications, digital projects and inclusive curatorial initiatives. Her work has been supported by prestigious fellowships, scholarships, and international research travel grants such as the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, the Custard Institute for Spanish Art and the Thoma Foundation.
