Jerry Bywaters Special Collections serves as a repository for archival materials and works of art on paper illuminating the cultural history of the Southwest, primarily performing and visual arts of the 20th century. In addition to the papers of noted regional artist, SMU professor and museum administrator Jerry Bywaters, the Bywaters Special Collections includes archives documenting the careers of artists in the region, such as Otis and Velma Davis Dozier, E. G. Eisenlohr, William Lester, Octavio Medellin, Everett Spruce, Janet Turner, and the Potter Metal Studio of Dallas, as well as many others. It also houses performing arts archival materials such as the Mary McCord/Edyth Renshaw Collection, the Paul and Viola Van Katwijk Collection and the papers of Academy Award-winning actress Greer Garson.
The facility is available to researchers by appointment only and is subject to restrictions. Visit the Bywaters Special Collections page for more information.
