Confirmed COVID-19 Cases on Campus

We are committed to transparency and alerting the community as cases are identified and verified.

As SMU is informed of positive COVID-19 cases, or known close contacts, the University guides individuals through their isolation and quarantine via its case management protocols This process takes place before SMU publishes a case to this site. Close contact is described by the Centers for Disease Control as being within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes (without direct respiratory droplet exposure) over a 24-hour period.

An individual may not need to quarantine – which is different than isolation – if they have been fully vaccinated and boosted. The student quarantine figure reflects the number of individuals living in University-owned residential facilities who are quarantining on campus. Students can choose to quarantine at their permanent address.

To receive notification when a positive case is added to the campus list, please email

SMU faculty and staff that have tested positive for COVID-19, or have been in close contact with someone that has tested positive for COVID-19 must fill out the SMU Health Reporting Form. Students must complete a Caring Community Connections Form. You will be contacted by the University case management team in order to work through isolation and quarantine procedures if needed.
