Meadows Office of Alumni and Career Success

Regardless of what you’re studying at Meadows, we want you to graduate feeling confident and prepared in pursuit of your career goals. In partnership with the SMU Hegi Family Career Development Center, the Meadows Office of Alumni and Career Success (ACS) offers resources, events and programs to assist students in building self-sustaining careers in the arts, media, design and communications.

While you’re here, we also want to help you activate your professional network. As a Meadows student, you are part of a community of over 20,000 alumni – including artists, communicators and professionals who are ready and willing to help you navigate your chosen career path. One of our primary objectives is to give you plenty of opportunities to connect with these alumni. Whether it’s through an informational interview or resume review – these graduates can help you plot your next career steps.

Explore the opportunities available to students through ACS below.

Meadows Career Success Appointments

The Hegi Center now offers Meadows Career Success (ACS) career counseling appointment opportunities exclusively to Meadows graduate and undergraduate majors and pre-majors. These sessions will equip you with foundational career development skills and prepare you to make professional connections through the SMU Meadows Network.

This hourlong career counseling appointment includes:

  • a LinkedIn profile and resume assessment
  • a networking tutorial
  • career path exploration, and
  • matching with a Meadows Mentor – an alum who is willing to provide industry-specific career guidance through an informational interview (conducted via Zoom) or resume review (via email)

To schedule a Meadows Career Success appointment, students must create a profile on HandShake – SMU’s primary job board. Learn more about how to book a career counseling appointment via HandShake.

Internships – particularly paid internships – are a direct path to future job offers. Check out some of the internship programs that are currently facilitated by the Hegi Family Career Development Center.

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Internship Program
Designed for students with diverse identities, this paid summer internship program matches students with an internship with one of the Hegi Center’s partner organizations. In 2023, internships were offered with several local arts and cultural organizations, including the Dallas Symphony Association, the Dallas Opera, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, and the Nasher Sculpture Center. Student applications are accepted starting in the fall semester.

Engage Dallas Internship Program
Engage Dallas is a place-based community engagement initiative via SMU's Residential Commons to address community needs focusing on South and West Dallas. The Engage Dallas Internship Program is a resource exclusively for SMU students completing summer internships at nonprofits and other organizations that typically offer unpaid internships.

Unpaid Internship Program
This program awards a stipend to students who have acquired an unpaid internship from a non-profit or government organization. Students must apply to receive funding, which is available on a limited basis.

View these and other internship postings on HandShake or book an appointment with a career counselor to plot your next steps toward internship success.
