Updating personal information includes: address changes, phone number changes, marital status changes, name changes, and other personal information changes.
Please click on the appropriate tab above to view how to make these changes.
Phone Number Changes
How to change your home phone number online:

Go to my.SMU and log in

Click on Employee Self-Service
-
Click on Personal Information
-
Click on Change Phone Number
-
Type in the new information and click Save
How to change your business phone number online:
- Go to smu.edu/oit
- Click Open a Ticket
- Click on Telephone>Update Your Business Phone Number
- Complete the form and click Submit.
Address Changes
How to change your home or mailing address online:

Go to my.SMU and log in
-
Click on Employee Self-Service

Click on Personal Information
-
Click on Change Address
-
Scroll down the page and click on Update or Correct Your Current Address

Type in the new information and click Save
How to change your business address:
-
Go to my.SMU and log in
-
Click on Self-Service
-
Click on Personal Information
-
Click on Personal Information Summary
-
Review your business address
If your address is incorrect you have the ability to correct it through self-service.

Click Correct Business Address

Choose from the options and click save

If you are unable to correct your address please send an email to smuhr@smu.edu with your SMU ID number and your Department Name, Building and Room number, and PO Box
Marital Status Changes
How to change your marital status:

Marriage: send an email to benefits@smu.edu with your name, SMU ID number, and marriage date.

Divorce: bring your divorce decree to the Department of Human Resources, Benefits Office in Expressway Tower, Suite 200.
*Be sure to complete a new W-4 form with Payroll or online through my.SMU
*There is a 31 day limit to add/delete dependents from the date of the marriage/divorce
Name Changes
How to change your legal and/or preferred name:

If your legal name has changed, please provide a copy of your Social Security card reflecting your new name and complete the Name Change Form. Submit both documents to the Department of Human Resources at smuhr@smu.edu.

To update your preferred name which is used in the SMU Campus Directory, please complete the Name Change Form and return to the Department of Human Resources at smuhr@smu.edu. A Social Security card is not needed.

If you would like an updated ID card reflecting your new name, please visit the SMU Parking and ID Services Office located on the main level of the Hughes Trigg Student Center. Inform the staff that you have completed a name change with Human Resources, and they will issue a new card at no cost.
Other Personal Information Changes
How to change other personal information:
