Student Resources

The SMU Meadows School of the Arts has significant resources, which support Division of Art students in the following ways:

  • assisting with the cost of attending SMU
  • supporting student travel and research
  • providing funds for student supplies and equipment

Prospective Students

To find out more about Artistic Scholarships and the Meadows Scholars Program, please see our Meadows Scholarships and Financial Aid page.

To learn about SMU Academic and Leadership Scholarships, and how to apply for financial aid, please see the SMU Scholarships and Financial Aid page.

Undergraduate students who are admitted both to SMU and to the Division of Art will automatically be considered for an Artistic Scholarship as well as an Academic Scholarship, and the two can be combined. Students interested in need-based financial aid should follow application details listed on the above pages.

Current students

Once students are admitted as art pre-majors, they must enroll in Foundations: ASAG 1300 and 1304.

Note for Artistic Scholarship Recipients:

Once students are admitted as art pre-majors, they must enroll in Foundations: ASAG 1300 and 1304. Students are granted Artistic Scholarships on the good faith that they intend to become art majors and should register for the necessary courses to do so. At the end of each year, if students do not enroll in the correct courses, they are in danger of losing their Artistic Scholarships. For current students with further questions regarding the continuance of their Artistic Scholarships, please contact Pam Henderson at pghender@smu.edu.

The Doolin Fund is meant to support undergraduate or graduate art students who wish to realize ambitious projects that require expensive art materials or specialist equipment not ordinarily a part of the Division’s resources. Contact Tippi Polo for a current application at tpolo@smu.edu.

The Jones Fund is meant to support undergraduate or graduate student projects during their last year of study. Contact Tippi Polo for a current application at tpolo@smu.edu.

The Zelle Fund is meant to support undergraduate or graduate students in need. Contact Tippi Polo for a current application at tpolo@smu.edu.

The Mary Vernon Painting Prize awards art majors who have demonstrated excellence in the area of painting. Division of Art faculty annually select students for this award and the winners are announced at the SMU Honors Convocation.

Engaged Learning supports students with ambitious independent projects. For more information see the Engaged Learning page.
