Cultivating spaces for collaboration and study
Renovations of the Clements Foundation Scholars’ Den will provide enhanced support for outstanding SMU faculty and honors scholars. When it reopens in early 2024, the space will serve as a hub of innovation, learning and excellence.
The Clements Foundation Scholars’ Den serves as the home of the offices of National Fellowships and Awards and Engaged Learning. It also provides space dedicated for several academic clubs.
In summer 2021, SMU completed the first phase of renovations as part of the University’s commitment to the long-term preservation of historic Clements Hall. The upgrades included an interactive conference room and a combination library and study area.
The second phase of renovations includes:
- Offices for faculty.
- Private study rooms for students.
- Enhanced technology for student-faculty collaboration.
- New ADA-compliant accessible entrances.
- Welcoming common area, complete with lounge-style seating, a coffee bar and additional tools for collaborative learning.
The revitalized Clements Foundation Scholars’ Den will help the University recruit future world changers to the Hilltop to learn, explore and grow together.
The renovation is made possible by two lead gifts from members of the Clements families. SMU alumni and supporters are invited to contribute to the remaining $600,000 needed to complete the project.
