Photo and Video Services

SMU Marketing and Communications provides photography and video services that showcase the people, places and work that define the University. Our goal is to create visual stories that reflect SMU’s welcoming, energetic and inclusive community.

Services Offered:

  • Event photography
  • Environmental and group portraits
  • Formal backdrop portraits
  • Video coverage of events and campus stories
  • Digital post‑production for photo and video

If SMU staff are unavailable, we can help coordinate approved freelance photographers and videographers.

 

Requesting Photo or Video Support

To request a photographer or videographer—or to receive a cost estimate—submit a request at least four weeks in advance.

Media Archive (Photo Library)

SMU maintains a continually updated, branded photo library in PhotoShelter, which includes images of students, faculty, campus life and academic programs.

PhotoShelter allows users to:

  • Search by keyword
  • Download images
  • Save collections
  • Share assets with colleagues

Access is limited to official University marketing for schools and units. For smaller, one‑time needs, temporary access or a curated Box folder may be provided.

Policies & Usage Guidelines

SMU owns the rights to all photos and videos in PhotoShelter. Use is permitted for:

  • Official University communications
  • Personal use that does not imply endorsement

Use is not permitted for:

  • Commercial activity
  • Political or personal advocacy
  • Any content implying University endorsement without approval

Fees

Fees are based on staff availability and project scope.

  • Photography: $150–$250/hr (2‑hour minimum)
  • Digital post‑production: $50/hr (typically 1 hour)
  • Video: Per estimate
  • Portraits: Per estimate based on style, number of subjects and post‑production needs

Delivery Timeline

Final photos and/or video are typically delivered within four weeks via Box or Media Archive. If you need select images or footage sooner, please note this in your request.
