Mandatory VITA Tests - Due January 24, 2020 or mid-February 2020

Dear Law Students,

Here are a few reminders regarding the SMU VITA program:

  1. If you plan to participate and haven't returned a Public Service Confirmation Agreement, please find one on the Public Service Program website or click on: Confirmation Agreement fill it out and return it to Lynn Moubry in Carr Collins Hall - suite 320.

  2. Stop by the Public Service Office (Carr Collins, 3rd floor) for the VITA packet, which includes: IRS Publication 4480 (Link & Learn Taxes Training Kit - includes the test/retest and tabbed Resource Guide), Publication 4491 (VITA Training Guide), and  Publication 17 (Your Federal Income Tax - tax table book). 

  3. Completethree MANDATORY IRS / VITA TESTS: Volunteer Standards of Conduct (1 hour or less - 10 questions), Intake/Interview and Quality Review  (20 minutes - 10 questions), Advanced (4+ hours minimum - 35 questions) online prior to scheduling your VITA hours.  Remember you will receive 8 Public Service hours for  taking the IRS required tests, provided you complete a minimum of 8 hours or more of tax preparation at our VITA sites.

    Then print and submit the following form:
    -  Completed IRS / VITA Volunteer Standards of Conduct Agreement (Form 13615) printed from the Link & Learn website:

    Return the completed IRS VITA Volunteer Standards of Conduct Agreement (Form 13615) to Lynn Moubry:  Carr Collins Hall, suite 320; scan/email to ; or fax - 214-768-4688, by January 26, 2018 or before the end of February 2018.

    Scheduling sites:

  1.  Each law student should submit your VITA site selections on the SMU VITA site selector webpage
     Request VITA dates/times/site locations beginning January 28, 2018.

  2. The logistics of public service hours and the program are listed on the SMU VITA website for your reference.
