Legal education at the SMU Dedman Law goes beyond the classroom and gives students opportunities to gain real-world experience through our legal clinics, academic externships, internship programs, and moot court and mock trial competitions.
The Academic Success Program (ASP) is dedicated to cultivating a supportive academic environment and to helping all law students reach their full academic potential. ASP provides academic skills training and support for students at all stages of their law school education. In 2015, with the adoption of our Inns of Court Program, ASP also became a cornerstone program of the 1L Inns of Court.
SMU’s Underwood Law Library is the largest private academic law library west of the Mississippi River. Its collections include approximately 673,361 law-related volumes and equivalents, ranking the library among the top 20% of law libraries in the United States.
Students have the opportunity to receive academic credit for and participate in the publication of four law reviews — the SMU Law Review, the Journal of Air Law and Commerce, The International Lawyer, and the SMU Science and Technology Law Review.
