The required texts are Field, Kaplan & Clermont, Materials for a Basic Course in Civil Procedure (14th ed. 2023) ("FKC") and West Publishing Co., Federal Rules of Civil Procedure Educational Edition (2023-2024).

For the first class, please read the following materials under the undersection B. 1. a. Stating the claim of the syllabus :  FKC: at 39-53;1282-1286; Rule 8(a),(c),(d) and (e); form 11.

For the second class, please read FKC at 53-60; 1314-1315; 1307-1310;1295-1297; Rules 9(b), 11

For the first class on Monday, August 14 at 10 am, please read and be prepared to discuss pages 1-13 of the 9^th edition of the Farnsworth, Sanger, et al casebook.  Also read pages 1-4 and pages 299-300 of the statutory supplement, Selections for Contracts also by Farnsworth, Sanger, et al, in either the 2023, 2022, or 2021 editions (they are all the same).

Welcome to the law school! For our first class, (1) sign up for the course website on Canvas; (2) using the course website, access and review the Syllabus and Reading Assignments documents using the links on the course home page; and (3) read pages 1-20 from E. Allan Farnsworth et al., Contracts – Cases and Materials (Found. Press, 10th ed. 2023). I understand the publisher has not yet shipped physical copies of this new edition of the book, but it is making an electronic copy available for the next two weeks. Instructions on how to access the electronic copy are located on the course website in a document entitled “WA eBook Early Access Instructions,” which is accessible using the Files link on the course homepage. There is no need to read every policy, but click on a few policy areas that interest you and skim through them. Again, there is no need to read all of the policies – just generally familiarize yourself with how the policies are laid out, and the general topics covered by policies. This is a 15-20 minute exercise.

The first class will meet on Monday, August 14th.  The two required texts are: (1) Lind, Lathrope and Field, Fundamentals of Federal Income Taxation (20th ed. 2022) and (2) Selected Federal Taxation: Statutes and Regulations 2024 (or 2023) Edition.  BRING BOTH BOOKS TO CLASS as we will be reading and referring to text from each book.  Read chapter 1 and pages 39-56 of chapter 2.  We will focus (i.e., cover in class) on pages 18-32, 39-56.  Work problems 1 and 3 on page 56.  I will pass out a syllabus in class.

For the first two classes, please read the Aquinas selection on natural law beginning at page 52 of the required textbook:  Philosophy of Law (9th edition, 2014, edited by Joel Feinberg, Jules Coleman and Christopher Kutz) (“PL”).

The required books for the course are Craver, Crain & Hayden,Labor Relations Law: Cases and Materials(14th ed. 2021), and Craver, Crain & Hayden,Selected Federal Statutes and Sample Bargaining Agreement(14th ed. 2021). There will also be an electronic casebook supplement that I'll send around when it becomes available.

For the first week of classes, please read pages 3-43 in the casebook. I'll pass out the syllabus on the first day of class.

Before our first class, you must:

Welcome to the Texas Pretrial Procedure course. I look forward to seeing you next week. For the first class, please read pages 91- 123 and any Rules referenced in the reading. I will discuss the Syllabus and give you a copy of it on the first day of class.
