Campus Life

Think of it as home

SMU provides a complete college experience that will connect you to a spirited student life, a promising career and the opportunities of living and learning in dynamic Dallas.

Benefit from small classes, direct access to faculty and great opportunities for internships. With nearly 200 campus organizations, there are countless options to get involved on campus and develop your leadership skills. Find them all at the Night at the Club fair during Mustang Corral, part of our orientation for new students, and find your place in our University community even before classes begin.

Our vibrant campus is small enough for you to really know your professors and make lifelong connections and large enough to stretch your mind in a variety of academic disciplines and campus activities.

Feel at home in our Residential Commons

In this transformative system of campus living, Faculty in Residence serve as mentors and academic leaders. They host informal gatherings in each of our 11 Residential Commons – from weekend movie nights to taco dinner study breaks. You’ll also love the energy of intellectual exchanges over monthly formal dinners – inspired by the “High Table” tradition at Oxford University – for the faculty and students of each Commons. Living in one of the 11 Commons, you’ll find it’s easier to make friends and transition smoothly to university life in a supportive environment. You’ll discover that the lifelong connections you build during your first two years on campus will enhance your entire collegiate experience.
