At SMU, our Mustang spirit and traditions date back to 1911 –
we’ve come a long way since then, on the field, on the courts and in the classroom.
SMU MUSTANG BAND
You won’t want to miss the SMU Mustang Band’s “Diamond M” formation from our “best-dressed band in the land” (they have 30 uniform options) and feature twirler.
SMU CHEER
SMU cheer leads fans in familiar chants at football and basketball games as well as community service events. Fun fact: the “herkie” jump was invented here.
SMU POM
The SMU pom squad brings energy and school spirit to every performance. They represent the Mustangs at football games, bowl games, basketball games, tournament play and more.

How do you do the SMU hand sign? To make your pony ears, start with a peace sign – now, “relax” it. Rock your pony ears back and forth as you chant or sing.
