For the win

It was a year of athletic achievement for Mustangs of many sports – all in all, we brought eight American Athletic Conference championships back home to the Hilltop, plus one first-ever national championship in equestrian. Men’s tennis, men’s swimming and rowing were all repeat champions. Women’s tennis celebrated their first AAC title. Women’s golf, volleyball and football enjoyed their first conference titles in several years.

And it doesn’t end there – men’s soccer went on to the third round of the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in nine seasons, and football competed in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl in Boston on December 28.

Each team serves up a story of perseverance, hard work and determination. Congratulations to all of our 2023 champions!

Volleyball

won the AAC championship for the first time since 2016, the team’s third conference title.

Equestrian team

won its first National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) championship – marking SMU’s first national championship in this sport.

Men’s soccer

won the AAC championship and went on to play through the third round of the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in nine seasons.

Women’s tennis

won the AAC championship for the first time in the program’s history.

Women’s golf

won the AAC championship with a 14-stroke victory at Southern Hills Golf Club – the team’s first conference title since 1992.

Rowing

The SMU team clinched its third consecutive AAC championship this year.

Men’s tennis

The Men’s team won its second consecutive AAC championship.

Men’s swimming and diving

The men’s team secured its third consecutive AAC championship this year.

Football

The Mustangs won their first conference championship in 39 years – and are off to the Wasabi Fenway Bowl in Boston on December 28.
