SMU Travel Advisory - China

Dear SMU Community,

SMU is following the Centers for Disease Control recommendation that travelers avoid all nonessential travel to China due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus. The U.S. State Department also has issued a Do not travel to China warning. As a result, SMU is not authorizing University-related travel to China by students, faculty or staff for the immediate future. Travel requests for later this spring will be evaluated following corresponding guidance from the CDC.

Chinese officials have closed transport within and out of Wuhan and other cities in Hubei province, including buses, subways, trains, and the international airport. Other locations within China may be affected and the situation is fluid. SMU students, faculty or staff considering private travel to China are urged to follow the CDC and U.S. State Department recommendations, as well.

Find updated information about coronavirus at this CDC site Any questions about this travel advisory may be directed to riskmanagement@smu.edu.

Thank you,

Warren Ricks
