Innovative pathways to success

Beginning in fall 2026, the University will offer two new undergraduate degree programs in game development and interdisciplinary studies that will prepare students for careers in diverse fields and emerging industries.

Innovative pathways to success

Leveraging SMU Guildhall’s renowned expertise in the gaming industry and the exceptional business opportunities afforded by the city of Dallas, the Bachelor of Arts in game development will guide talented undergraduate students as they create the future of digital interactive environments. The program will attract technologically creative minds from around the world and offer them unmatched access to mentorships, industry connections and real-world opportunities.

“This new program is intentionally designed to help students develop strong creative identities while learning to deliver creative work in a cross-disciplinary production environment,” said Elizabeth Stringer, clinical professor and director of academics at SMU Guildhall.

The Bachelor of Arts in interdisciplinary studies will create a new avenue of opportunity for career-minded students who may otherwise be unable to earn their four-year degree. The program will invest heavily in current SMU students with diverse academic interests and former students who were unable to complete their degrees. The University also expects the program to attract new transfer students, including those with unique lived experiences like military veterans and professionals with associate’s degrees, among others.

“This is a launching pad for students to build on their existing skillsets and lived experiences,” said Sheri Kunovich, associate provost for Student Academic Engagement and Success. “Here, they will uncover new professional opportunities, participate in curated internships, and be supported as they invest in their futures and themselves.”
