SMU WEAT team advances to nationals for the fifth consecutive year

For the fifth consecutive year, a Civil and Environmental Engineering Senior Design Team, from the Bobby B. Lyle School of Engineering, is awarded First Place in a regional Student Design Competition sponsored by the Water Environment Association of Texas (WEAT).

Civil and Environmental Engineering majors, Allison Blake, Margaret Fryer, Esther Kolkman, and Madalyn Liebum presented their project, The City of Gainesville Wastewater Treatment Plan, during the 2013 Annual Texas Water Conference in Galveston, Texas on April 10th. The wastewater treatment plant is in need of repair and rehabilitation to reduce the high level of maintenance consistently needed to operate the plant.  The project provides comprehensive design alternatives for the City of Gainesville Wastewater Treatment Plant which will include the assessment of current conditions, rehabilitate existing processes, and design new processes.  The team is supervised by Mr. Fritz Beck and Dr. Roger Dickey.

Our winning SMU team, representing the State of Texas, will participate in a national Student Design Competition sponsored by the Water Environment Federation (WEF), on October 6, 2013, during the 86th Annual Water Environmental Federation Technical Exhibit and Conference (WEFTEC) in Chicago, Illinois.
