Our Ph.D. program offers a supportive and collegial environment where students benefit from extensive face-to-face attention and guidance due to the program's small size. Financial support is robust with opportunities including tuition remission, teaching assistantships, and research assistantships. Our internationally and nationally recognized faculty are distinguished by their high research productivity, offering mentorship in synergistic research concentrations such as medical anthropology, migration studies, archaeology, human impacts and environmental anthropology, gender studies, GIS, and cultural heritage.
The program boasts unique research infrastructure including the Archaeological Research Collections, Taos Field School, genetics lab, and environmental anthropology lab, along with connections to Dallas-area facilities and institutions, providing ample opportunities for research. Emphasizing rigorous methods training and field research, our program has a strong record of both global and local research achievements by students, supported by effective mentoring for grant proposal writing and securing external funding.

Admitted doctoral students receive a stipend, tuition remission, and health insurance as part of their package. Many of our students also receive prestigious national and international awards to support their individual research and expenses.
