About the program
The Master of Science in Data Science and Applied Statistics (MDSAS) program at SMU offers students
a unique opportunity to gain technical skills and analytical tools needed to succeed in a variety of
industries. The Department of Statistics and Data Science provides a rigorous and collaborative learning
environment that emphasizes hands-on experience and practical application of statistical theory.
Job placement is a crucial aspect of the MDSAS program. SMU has a strong network of relationships with
companies in the Dallas area, where many students are placed after graduation. These companies include
major players in the finance, healthcare, and technology industries. MDSAS graduates are well-equipped

Admissions Requirements
Applicants must:
- hold a Bachelor's degree
- have taken a course in statistics
- have taken calculus courses through multivariate calculus
- have excellent English communication skills
Application Requirements
- Transcripts from all institutions attended (post high school; unofficial documents can be uploaded to your application).
- 3 Letters of Recommendation
- Résumé
- Statement of Purpose
- GRE Scores if cumulative undergraduate GPA is below 3.0
- International applicants must provide English Language Proficiency scores if their degree does not meet our waiver requirements.
