The Assistant Director for Fraternity & Sorority Life provides training, development, advice, and support for the individual members, chapters, councils, advisors and inter/national organizations of the Southern Methodist University (SMU) fraternity & sorority community. This position will provide specific advisement to the individual members and chapters of two of our four Greek councils. This position supports initiatives that benefit the entire community including event planning, training and development, and advice and support for SMU students and the fraternity and sorority community. The Assistant Director is a member of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) team and works in service of the departmental mission, and divisional strategic plan.

Essential Functions:

  • Advising: Provide hands-on, personalized advising to the executive board, chapter leaders, and members of two of our Greek Councils. Communicate and meet regularly with alumni volunteers, (inter)national headquarters constituents, housing corporation boards, traveling consultants, and fraternity/house directors. Coordinate formal/informal council recruitment/intake processes.

  • Programming: Manage the planning and execution of FSL community-wide initiatives with specific responsibility for the Greek 101 informational course and event, the Advisor newsletter, the semester community grade report in order to further the development of a unified community and support values-based programming.

  • Serve as an active and engaged member of the Fraternity & Sorority Life team and support the department mission. Support the implementation and realization of the goals and learning domains in the Student Affairs strategic plan. Support and encourage adoption of SMU360. Complete other duties as assigned.

  • Evening and weekend hours will be required.

The Associate Director position assists the Director with the management of the Counseling Service's clinical operating processes. This individual will help oversee the provision of intake assessment, individual/couples/group therapy, and crisis intervention to ensure the most effective services are provided to a culturally diverse student population. The Associate Director will also provide counseling service to students and outreach/consultation to the broader university community.

Working for Residence Life & Student Housing (RLSH), this position provides leadership in developing and sustaining positive, academically focused upper division residential communities and in successfully accomplishing administrative functions required in managing a university residence community within a Residential Commons (i.e. Residential Colleges) setting. The Associate Director leads their team in creating and providing a foundational student experience that promotes belonging, learning, and connection. 
Directly supervise 1 full-time Residential Community Director, and 5-7 graduate students (Fraternity House Directors (FHD).) Indirectly supervise 1 graduate assistant (GA) and 7-15 Resident Assistants. Position is live-off and reports to the Director of Residence Life. Position serves in an on-call rotation.

Southern Methodist University (SMU) is seeking a temporary Athletic Mental Health Counselor to support the provision of clinical services, consultation, outreach, programming and advocacy for SMU's student-athletes. The successful candidate will have expertise in providing mental health counseling/treatment to college aged population, preferably to collegiate student-athletes.

Southern Methodist University (SMU) is seeking a part-time, as needed, temporary Clinical Lab Medical Assistant for the medical laboratory of the Dr. Bob Smith Health Center.  The medical lab supports the Health Center’s primary care practice for SMU students. The Clinical Lab Medical Assistant will perform a variety of duties, including blood draws, collection of other lab specimens, routine lab tests, and patient identification for all samples.

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

The Coordinator provides support for student activities by working closely with students to identify their specific interests and goals and facilitating their involvement in a range of activities. The Coordinator shares responsibility for campus-wide programming initiatives designed to create a vibrant campus life and sense of student community. They support student organizations, their leaders, and advisors through assistance with founding new and maintaining existing student organizations. A significant focus is developing and supporting departmental initiatives that foster student involvement and leadership development. 

Essential Functions:

  • Advises student organization/programming board, to cover individual advising, meeting/event attendance, providing general counsel, budget oversight, training and development, retreats, recruitment, etc. This includes preparation and execution of university-wide traditions and events.

  • Develops and maintains resources designed to support the leadership development of student organization leaders. Advances leadership development programming among student organizations (specifically, student organization leaders). Expands the reach and impact of Student Center & Activities (SCA) leadership development initiatives such as training sessions, speakers, retreats, or conferences.

  • Supports student organizations, their leaders, and advisors through various aspects of a student organization's life cycle (founding new, maintaining existing, officer turnover, recruiting/onboarding/supporting members). Direct planning and execution of SCA initiatives such as recruitment/involvement fairs and student organization training. This will involve significant outreach efforts.

  • Advises one or more Student Senate Committees.

  • Other duties as assigned, which may include but are not limited to: special projects, task forces, committee assignments and supervision of graduate assistants.

  • Evening and/or weekend hours will be required. 

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor’s degree is required. A Master's degree is preferred. A degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Leadership, Management or adjacent field is preferred. 

A minimum of two years of experience is required. A minimum of one year full-time (or two years part-time) higher education experience is preferred, preferably in student organization advising and/or programming.

Education and Experience:

Master's Degree is required. 

Licensed in the state of Texas in psychology, counseling, social work or related field, is required.

A minimum of one year of counseling work experience is required.

Work experience in a college or university counseling center is a plus.

Thorough knowledge of and experience with administration and interpretation of psychological tests is preferred.

Experience with crisis intervention is required.

Experience using Microsoft Office Suite is required.  Experience with Electronic Medical Records is required.

The Director of Wellbeing Education works as a member of the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students leadership team in assessing, developing, managing, and promoting a holistic health and wellness culture at Southern Methodist University (SMU). This position will develop and implement a vision for the newly-created Office of Wellbeing Education and work collaboratively with offices and departments across campus to promote wellbeing, specifically those within the Division of Student Affairs. The Director of Wellbeing Education supervises staff members, including the recovery program coordinator.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide leadership for the newly-created Office of Wellbeing Education using evidence-based health promotion approaches to develop a vision, strategies, and programs that advance a culture of holistic health and wellbeing and address critical priority areas for student wellness at SMU. This includes supervising the recovery program coordinator.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across campus and within the Division of Student Affairs in planning and implementing large- and small-scale programming and presentations for the campus that promote health and wellbeing.
  • Conduct health needs assessments and other public health surveys to drive program planning. Produce comprehensive reports to educate stakeholders and inform strategic planning and decision-making. Complete the biannual Drug Free Campus-Act reports.
  • Support the ongoing work of the Student Recovery Program and oversee the substance use prevention efforts on campus.
  • Maintain and oversee department budgets in partnership with the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students and the Senior Financial Budget Officer for the Division of Student Affairs. Pursue additional funding for program and office support through collaboration with the Division of Development and External Affairs' fundraising efforts and through grant writing.
  • Provide direction and leadership for a core group of students to promote awareness and effective delivery of health-related information and programs. Recruit, train, and supervise 10-15 Wellbeing Education Team members (WESTies) each year.
  • Serve as a member of the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Leadership Team.
  • The position requires some evening and weekend work depending upon training requests and student needs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Master’s degree is required.  Field of study for degree in public health, higher education or other closely related field, is required.

A minimum of five years of work experience in the field of health education or health promotion is required. College health and wellbeing experience or experience with corporate wellbeing initiatives is required.  

Experience with developing and utilizing student/peer leaders is preferred. Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis is preferred. 

Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) credential is preferred.

Under the supervision of the Director of Counseling Services, the Clinical Case Manager provides mental health referral coordination and follow-up for SMU students who may wish to seek treatment off-campus or whose needs are beyond Counseling Services’ scope of care.  The Clinical Case Manager develops collaborative relationships with SMU campus partners and Dallas area therapists providers, provides consultation for staff, coordinates medical withdrawals, and assists in providing both crisis intervention and initial consultation screenings.  The purpose of this position is to connect students with the resources they need to manage their mental health and enhance the likelihood of personal and academic success. The successful candidate will join a campus community that strives to be deeply supportive and conducive to positive mental health and wellbeing.  

The Office Coordinator provides critical support to the Office of the Chaplain and Religious Life at SMU, with particular focus on the Center for Faith & Learning. This position provides administrative support to the OCRL staff (2 full time chaplains, 2 part time chaplains and the Director of the Center for Faith & Learning). Reporting to the Chaplain and Minister to the University and the Director of the Center for Faith & Learning, the Coordinator manages the office environment and programmatic priorities to insure effective operations, communications and development. The Coordinator will demonstrate a commitment to integrating intellectual and spiritual life.

This position performs duties to support the daily operation of the Pharmacy in the Dr. Bob Smith Health Center on the SMU campus. The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in tasks associated with patient care, which includes preparing and delivering pharmaceuticals and related items, processing insurance, entering prescriptions and inputing data, helping manage inventory and providing all aspects of customer service required to support Pharmacy services. Maintains appropriate confidentiality of patient information and compliance with HIPAA standards. This position completes the essential functions of the job under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.  

Essential Functions:

  • Provides quality customer service. Answers the phone and greets customers at the counter. Receives prescription requests from patients and doctors’ offices and accepts payments for prescriptions.  

  • Assists the pharmacist with the dispensing of items ordered by a physician pursuant to a valid prescription by helping package, fill, label, price, and deliver prescriptions. Documents all activities appropriately, which includes entering prescriptions, completing reports, inputting computer data and establishing and maintaining patient records.  

  • Assists with management of the pharmacy inventory; places inventory orders, logs in new inventories. Responsible for helping oversee the Pharmacy retail area, receiving and inspecting merchandise, stocking and organizing shelves, guiding customers, and keeping track of inventories. Takes part in the two mandatory physical inventory audits performed each year.

  • Processes insurance claims (including rejections) in a proficient manner. 

Education and Experience:

A High school diploma or equivalent is required.

A minimum of one year of pharmacy work experience is required.

National PTCB certification is required and must be in good standing with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.

Southern Methodist University (SMU) is seeking a part-time, as needed, temporary Psychiatrist for the Dr. Bob Smith Health Center. The psychiatrist provides assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic psychiatric disorders for students attending SMU. 

This is not a benefits eligible position.  Temporary position.  Hours:  9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. M-F as needed.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide high quality patient-centered care, including assessment, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic psychiatric disorders. Perform patient evaluations and routine and emergency care, medication management, psychotherapy, family meetings, mandated evaluations, consultations, and coordination of care. Ensure adequate follow-up of patients and their concerns (facilitated by our technology and workflow tools). Provide effective patient communication and education (facilitate understanding and self-care)  
  • Maintain good medical records, review reports, receive and make appropriate referrals. Consult with other healthcare team members. Assist in managing the clinical environment and contribute to protocols to improve patient care and outcomes. Engage with in-service training, peer review, accreditation and quality control processes.

Education and Experience:

A Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) is required. Must be Board Certified in Psychiatry.  

A minimum of three years of experience is required. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must have knowledge of confidentiality laws and regulations including HIPAA and FERPA, ICD 10 and CPT billing and coding principles and procedures. 

Candidate knowledge of medical treatment resources in the community is essential. 

Candidate must able to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office. The ability to learn and utilize electronic health records is required.

The Staff Psychologist is responsible for providing mental health services to currently enrolled students at SMU. Reporting to the Director of Counseling Services, this position provides direct and indirect clinical services, including initial assessments, individual and group therapy, drop in and crisis intervention, outreach education/programming, and consultation to faculty/staff, students, family members, and others. This position also provides supervision of graduate student trainees. The staff psychologist works collaboratively with professional colleagues and departments in the Divisions of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs to provide culturally competent, evidence-based care.
