DALLAS (SMU) – Now that Spring Break is over, SMU’s Altshuler Learning Enhancement Center (A-LEC) is offering assistance to SMU students who need damage control or a little organizational help to finish the semester strong.
The A-LEC, at 202 Lloyd Center, holds one-hour sessions on a variety of study techniques where students are taught strategies they can apply to their own specific courses. No appointment is necessary and these A-LEC workshops are available in coming weeks:
GPA 101: SMU Survival Skills – March 28, 4:15 p.m.
Students will review grades that they feel are below average and determine the negative factors that may have affected their work. The students will then choose positive steps to take in improving those grades. An overview of techniques for managing time, texts, lectures, and tests will give specific strategies for immediate use.
RESEARCH AND RESEARCH PAPERS – Wednesday, March 30, 4:15 p.m.
Students who want better results for research projects are encouraged to attend this workshop. A librarian will introduce research techniques that save time and help find better resources.
SAVE YOUR SEMESTER – Develop new strategies to end strong:
- Monday, April 4, 4 p.m.
- Tuesday, April 5, 4 p.m.
- Wednesday, April 6, 5 p.m.
- Thursday, April 7, 5 p.m.
Mid-terms are over, and there are only a few weeks before final exams. Students not satisfied with performance in classes, still have time for new strategies. Session will provide an overview of techniques for managing time, texts, lectures and tests focusing on specific strategies for immediate use. Participants should bring calendars and all syllabi.
