Earth Day celebration comes early to SMU at Barefoot on the Boulevard

Barefoot on the Boulevard, SMU’s annual student-sponsored celebration of green living, brings free food, music and fun to Bishop Boulevard from Noon-5 p.m. Saturday, April 18.

DALLAS (SMU) – Barefoot on the Boulevard, SMU’s annual student-sponsored celebration of green living, brings free food, music and fun to Bishop Boulevard from Noon-5 p.m. Saturday, April 18.

Barefoot on the BoulevardSponsored by the Environmental Society, Barefoot on the Boulevard is open to the community. SMU clubs, institutes and organizations will set up under the oaks along with vendors, sharing demonstrations, games and displays.

“The reason we invite people out for Barefoot on the Boulevard every year is to get them to learn about the environment,” said student Wendy Alyea, Environmental Society president. “We want it to be a fun and educational experience for everyone. There will be entertainment throughout the afternoon, along with face painting, henna, and T-shirt tie-dying.”

Individual singers and guitarists will perform from 12:30-1 p.m.  Other performances include:

  • 1-1:30 p.m. Stampede
  • 2-2:30 p.m. Spoken Word
  • 3-3:30 p.m. SMU MustRaas
  • 4-4:30 p.m. Southern Gentlemen

Confirmed participants and vendors include Home Depot, The Town, Trinity River Audubon Center, SMU Student Senate, Groundwork Dallas, SMU’s Hunt Institute for Engineering and Humanity, Voices of the Animals, SMU’s Environmental Society, SMU’s student chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB), Green City Initiative, SMU’s Sustainability Committee, new SMU student group Zero Waste Mustangs, Oasis Express, SMU Engaged Learning/Clinton GIobal Initiative, SMU E-reps, and Earth Day Dallas.
