Men's and Women's Basketball teams reach second rounds

Both the SMU Men's Basketball team and the Women's Basketball team have reached the second round of national invitation tournaments.

The Men play LSU in the NIT at 8 p.m. Monday, March 24, in Moody Coliseum, and the Women play Minnesota in the WNIT at 5 p.m. Sunday, March 23, in Williams Arena in Minneapolis.

About the Men's Game:

No. 1-seeded SMU (24-9) hosts fifth-seeded LSU (20-13) in the National Invitation Tournament Second Round at Moody Coliseum on Monday at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN. The game is sold out, the Mustangs' eighth sellout of the year, a Moody Coliseum record. SMU has 24 wins, the fourth-most in program history, and the most since the Mustangs recorded 28 wins in the 1987-88 season. The Mustangs are 16-1 at home this season, including 10-1 inside Moody Coliseum. SMU's 16 home wins are a program record. SMU, which is making its third NIT appearance, defeated UC Irvine 68-54 in the first round on Wednesday.

SMU tied the program record with 12 conference wins, most since winning the 1993 Southwest Conference title. The Mustangs' third-place conference finish was the best since 2003.

About the Women's Game:

The Mustangs advanced to the second round of the WNIT to face Minnesota Sunday at 5 p.m. in Minneapolis with an 84-72 win at home over Texas Southern Thursday. SMU is 18-13 on the season after picking up its first postseason win since knocking off North Carolina State 64-63 in the first round of the 2000 NCAA Tournament. The Gophers are 21-12 after beating Green Bay 62-60 to advance.
