SMU Law Professor Jeff Bellin has been providing expertise to national news media concerning the case of Sarah McKinley, a mother who shot and killed one of two intruders who broke into her home in rural Oklahoma on New Year's Eve. The other intruder fled. Her actions that night, which have drawn national attention, fell under what is commonly called the "castle law" or "castle doctrine."
