The University continues to monitor New Mexico wildfire and smoke situation

July 6, 2011

The Southern Methodist University campus at Taos, New Mexico, remains open and all classes and events are being held as scheduled. Although the campus recently experienced some smoke from wildfires near Los Alamos some 60 miles to the southwest, the air is now clear.

SMU-in-Taos is continuously monitoring air quality at the campus using detection equipment and visual observation and will notify the campus community if a danger exists.  For more information about SMU-in-Taos, call 575-758-8322.

The New Mexico Department of Health has set up crisis lines to answer questions about health concerns due to the wildfires. You may call the New Mexico Nurse Advice Line at 1-877-725-2552. Click here for more information.

All roads in the Taos area are open. For the latest information on New Mexico road closings, see http://www.nmroads.com.

SMU will update this information if the situation changes.
