Memorial service set for retired SMU vice president Richard Rubottom

A memorial service for R. Richard Rubottom Jr., a retired SMU vice president who who had a distinguished career in the Foreign Service and higher education, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 15, in Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas.

Immediately following the service, the family will receive guests at a reception in the church's Fellowship Hall.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to support the Rubottom Foreign Service Scholarship, Southern Methodist University (Development Office), Dallas; Boy Scouts of America, Circle 10 Council, Dallas; Community Ministries, Highland Park United Methodist Church, Dallas; Downtown Dallas Rotary Club; or Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Ambassador Rubottom died December 6 in Austin, Texas, at the age of 98. A 1932 graduate of SMU, his lengthy career also included leadership positions with the U.S. Department of State, University of the Americas and the City of Dallas. Read more about him.
