Mane Event gives students a much-needed break

The SMU Student Foundation’s Mane Event returned to the Dallas Hall front lawn Friday, giving students a much-needed break from studying.

“Fiesta SMU” featured free food from Quesa-d-yas, Taco Cabana, b.b.bop, Pizza Hut Pokey O’s and Paciugo. Students were entertained by tarot card readers, henna tattoo designers, inflatable obstacle courses, photo booths and caricature artists.

Entertainment was similar to past years, but Friday’s festival had a new attraction — the mechanical bull.

“Mane Event is such a great way to celebrate the end of the school year. Who doesn’t like free food and activities,” said Jordan Kragen, the Student Foundation’s Mane Event chair. “It's a great way to relax and have fun before finals. There is something for everyone and it’s at such a convenient location.”

The sun was out and temperatures were in the mid-70s for the event, much better than last year, when it was cool and drizzling. It was an eye-opening first Mane Event for freshman Antonea Bastian, Student Foundation ambassador’s chair.

“It was a lot of fun to see all the different types of activities going on,” said Bastian. “After helping plan it and seeing all the details behind the scene that made it happen, it’s cool to see it.”

Final exams begin next Wednesday and continue through May 10, although no exams are scheduled for Sunday.
