National job gains spell good news for Texas

Texas isn’t the only place where employers are expanding payrolls.

During the last two months, the nation as a whole has added a combined 410,000 jobs. The two-month gain in private-sector jobs was even higher, at 470,000 — the largest such increase in five years.

Stronger national growth is good news for Texas, which has been outperforming the nation as a whole over the last year.

A stronger job recovery in other states is bound to boost the economy here, too.

“The numbers are certainly encouraging,” said Bernard Weinstein, an economist at Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business.
