SMU experts speak out on Texas textbook decision

The State Board of Education approved Friday new curriculum standards for U.S. history and other social studies courses with a conservative tone, shaping the education of students for the next decade.

David Chard, dean of SMU's Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development, and Anthropology Professor Ron Wetherington, who served on a committee of experts that advised the board on science standards, were critical of the decision, adopted 9-5 in a vote along party lines.
