Energy industry award goes to Hunt

Dallas civic leader and oilman Ray Hunt, chairman and CEO of Hunt Oil Co. and chairman, CEO and president of Hunt Consolidated Inc., recently received the first L. Frank Pitts Energy Leadership Award, which is given to an individual who exemplifies a spirit of ethical leadership and innovative impact on the energy industry.

Dallas civic leader and oilman Ray Hunt, chairman and CEO of Hunt Oil Co. and chairman, CEO and president of Hunt Consolidated Inc., recently received the first L. Frank Pitts Energy Leadership Award, which is given to an individual who exemplifies a spirit of ethical leadership and innovative impact on the energy industry.

"I am honored that the Maguire Energy Institute and Southern Methodist University's Cox School of Business created this award to celebrate my father's legacy," said Linda Pitts Custard. "He would have been delighted that Ray was selected as the recipient as he greatly admired and respected him."

The award will be given annually.

"Frank Pitts was known for his exemplary leadership in the oil and gas industry for nearly seven decades," said Cary Maguire, chair and president of Maguire Oil Co. and Components Corp. "Creating an award in his name will further his legacy and elevate the prominence of the Maguire Energy Institute."

Dr. R. Gerald Turner,SMU president, said: "Ray Hunt is the ideal person to receive this award due to his vision, record of success and high integrity. He has made a tremendous impact on the energy industry, not just in Dallas but throughout the nation and around the globe. Ray is also known for his philanthropic spirit. He has given back tirelessly throughout the Dallas community and beyond."

The event raised $200,000, which will be used to support student programs and other educational activities of the SMU Cox Maguire Energy Institute as well as business school scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in careers in the energy industry.
