The official dinosaur of Texas will be stripped of its title if Fort Worth state Rep. Charlie Geren has his way.

Geren has filed a resolution to replace the Pleurocoelus (right) with the Paluxysaurus jonesi as official Texas dinosaur.

Former SMU grad student Peter Rose published a paper in 2007 proving that the fossils found on a ranch in Hood County were not of the species previously believed but of an entirely new species of dinosaur.  He named the new animal after the town of Paluxy, where the fossils were found.

You can read Geren's resolution and Rose's paper.
