SMU's 35-33 win Saturday at UAB broke all kinds of unfortunate streaks for the Mustangs, including a long chain of road, Conference USA and Football Bowl Subdivision losses.

Not to get giddy, but at 2-0 for the first time since 1996, bigger things suddenly seem possible.

SMU heads this week to Washington State. The Cougars (0-2) may play in the Pac-10, but they lost Saturday, 38-20, to Hawaii, SMU coach June Jones' former team. WSU went 2-11 in 2008.

It's an improbable question to ask, but could the Ponies get to 3-0 for the first time since 1984, when SMU earned a share of the Southwest Conference championship and last went to a bowl?

SMU's last win over a team from a BCS conference came against Kansas in 2000.
