Faculty and students at Lyle carry out research in a wide range of areas of engineering and applied science funded by government agencies, foundations and private companies. Undergraduate students interested in research opportunities can get involved through the Lyle Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) Program or SMU's Office of Engaged Learning. Graduate Students interested in research may do so by contacting the academic department they would like to focus their research on.

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program
The Lyle Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program, or Lyle SURF, exposes students to cutting-edge scientific research conducted by Lyle and SMU faculty. This opportunity is most valuable to students who wish to participate in research with faculty with the intent to apply to graduate school or who are curious about engineering research relevant to technological advancement.
