Payton’s academic and professional interests center on language, culture, and global systems. He has gained international experience through study abroad and professional work in Europe, including an internship in Seville focused on organizational expansion and fundraising, as well as academic programs in Italy and Central Europe. He is a recipient of the U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship and has been recognized with multiple academic honors for excellence in language and cultural studies.

He is grateful for the opportunities SMU has provided and looks forward to carrying the intellectual rigor, leadership experience, and global perspective gained at SMU into the next chapter of his academic and professional life.
