Jer'Lisa Devezin

Assistant Professor of Practice
Interdisciplinary Art

Born in New Orleans in 1989, Jer’Lisa Joyce Devezin received her B.A. from Dillard University in New Orleans in 2011 and her M.F.A. from SMU in 2019. Devezin was an artist in residence with the Joan Mitchell Center of New Orleans, and her work has been presented at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center and Talley Dunn Gallery. Her practice is interdisciplinary with an emphasis in ceramics, metal and video/performance. Much of her influence comes from the aesthetics and culture of the diaspora, specifically African and Haitian art, Black culture, and nostalgic memories of New Orleans. Devezin’s work communicates ideas of strength, resourcefulness, beauty and power. Her experimental investigations through video and performance explore the relationships between physical labor, sexuality and Black womanhood.
