The Institute was established in 2020 with the generous support of Mr. and Mrs. Tucker Bridwell (BBA ’73, MBA ’74). The Bridwell Institute continues and expands upon the mission of its predecessor, the William J. O’Neil Center for Global Markets and Freedom.
The Bridwell Institute’s 2025-26 annual report covers the spring semester of our yearlong Semiquincentennial of Freedom – a celebration of the 250th anniversaries of the Declaration of Independence and the publication of Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations. Other milestones include former SMU Cox Dean Matt Myers being named Bridwell Institute executive director and the first Bridwell Prize going to The Land Trap. The report also highlights our undergraduate reading groups, economic freedom rankings, research publications, public speakers, and economic literacy program for elementary and high school students. The Semiquincentennial of Freedom will continue in the fall semester.
