Remote I-9 Form Instructions

All new employees must complete a Form I-9 per United States Customs and Immigration Service (USCIS) regulations. New employees who have accepted job offers will need to make arrangements to complete the Form I-9 by their first day of employment.

Most new employees will complete the Form I-9 in-person at SMU's Department of Human Resources during the new employee processing on their first day of work. If you will not be able to complete the Form I-9 in-person at SMU's Department of Human Resources by your first day of employment, you will need to complete the Form I-9 remotely OR your start date will need to be changed to allow you to complete the Form I-9 as required by your first day of work.

New faculty and adjunct faculty are reminded that their employment agreements with SMU are conditioned on your ability to demonstrate work authorization pursuant to immigration laws.

Request a Remote Form I-9

If you have confirmed that you will not be available to complete the Form I-9 in-person by your first day of employment, you must notify a HR Representative to initiate the Remote Form I-9 Process. Notify your HR contact directly or send an email to HR at smuHR@smu.edu to initiate the Remote Form I-9 Process.

Emails with links for you and your employer representative to complete your Form I-9 remotely will be sent to you by HR.
